PDI organizes District Level DRR Trainings in Khuzdar and Kalat
In collaboration with Oxfam Novib, Participatory Development Initiatives organized a district level training workshop for the officials and civil society representatives in Disaster Risk Management in Balochistan. 2-day training workshop on DRM was held in two districts, Khuzdar May 4-5, 2009 and in Kalat Balochistan on May 7-8, 2009. In the said training workshop representatives from District Disaster Management Authority, District Government and Civil Society Organizations participated. The training was organized to build the capacity of the stakeholders of District level working on disaster in prone areas of Balochistan.
The training workshop provided opportunity to participants understanding the key components of risk assessment, risk management, and mitigation strategies in structural and non-structural forms. The participants of the workshop in the end shared their views and said “This is first time the PDI has organized the training on very imperative issue, however before this we had only observed the destructions in the area in result of the disasters. We never imagined the comprehensive strategies could reduce the loss of risks of lives, properties and livelihood. The communities of Balochistan were always in desperate conditions before and after the disaster, therefore we leant that now risk can be mitigated now with participatory planning with communities and concerned departments” said Dr. Nazeer Ahmed, Khuzdar Balochistan.
